The Central-Mid-Levels escalator and walkway system is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. It was finished in 1993 for linking areas within Central and Western Districts of Hong Kong Island.

Even the CNN ranks this escalator and walkway system as one of the world's 7 coolest commutes in 2015.

This system is one-way escalator, moving downhill from 6 AM to 10 AM for those to go to walk and uphill from 10 AM to midnight. If you want to take the opposite way, you need to use the staircase beside the escalator.

You can see ads everywhere along your way uphill or downhill.

Apart from serving as a method of transport, this system also become a tourist attraction and has restaurants and shops along.
Residents sometimes may take their dogs for a walk along the escalator. They are huge, but very gentle. Love them (Smiling face).

Hong Kong Island is dominated by steep terrain which makes its unique transport possible.
But I feel Hong Kong Island is crowded with people and with tall buildings. Most of the roads are gloomy and dump. Not like it.

The Central-Mid-Levels escalator and walkway system has been a filming location for Chungking Express (重慶森林).
